Motivational appeals are a crucial factor in analyzing the effectiveness of marketing, branding, and advertising. To identify what works, understanding the motivational appeal to use in an advertisement is key. This video will be analyzing five advertisements, identifying the motivational appeals within their messages and assessing the ads effectiveness in congruence with topics or theories learned in Communications 333: Persuasion.
In advertising, motivational appeals can be the catalyst in achieving success in sales and in building the reputation of a company. Also, knowing which appeals to use for which products and demographic are just as important. Sexual, humor, warm, celebrity, and emotional appeals are just five of the major types seen in advertising. It's safe to say that knowing as much information about these main appeals in beneficial to any business, no matter the productbeing sold. Also, knowing your target ausience and demographic helps as well. For instance, Covergirl used celebrity, sexual, emotional, and humor appeals to pull in viewers because their company is worldwide and targeted to a large demographic, so using more than one appeal works best for attracting more customers.
Overall, motivational appeals are simply psychological cues to persuade people to consume your product.
